The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 10 secondary school students in Adamawa State for allegedly participating in the banned “Signed Out” celebration, a practice authorities say poses a threat to public order.
The arrests were carried out by the NSCDC Safe School Response Squad following credible intelligence linking students from Capital School, GDSS Demsawo, Doubelli, and Damilu to activities considered a public nuisance.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Nyako Amidu Baba, said the students were allegedly involved in painting their bodies, tearing school uniforms, fighting on the streets, and engaging in other activities capable of disrupting public peace.
He added that one of those arrested was wearing a school uniform but was reportedly not a student, while investigations also revealed that some of those apprehended were in SS1 and SS2, contrary to the initial belief that they were final-year students.
The NSCDC noted that the Adamawa State Ministry of Education banned the “Signed Out” celebration in 2025 following growing concerns over violence, misconduct, and public disorder associated with the end-of-school festivities.
Authorities reiterated their warning to schools and students against participating in the celebration, stressing that the ban is aimed at protecting students and maintaining public safety
