The Accord Party and the Osun State Police Command have disagreed over the neutrality of security operatives ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

According to Vanguard, the Osun State Chairman of the Accord Party, Pastor Victor Akande, accused the police of failing to remain impartial in the discharge of their duties, alleging selective enforcement against members of opposition groups.

Akande claimed that some individuals allegedly linked to political violence had not been arrested, while members of rival transport unions and opposition supporters were being targeted by security operatives. He urged the police to ensure professionalism and fairness throughout the election period.

Responding to the allegations, the Osun State Police Command denied any bias, insisting that its personnel remain committed to professionalism and neutrality in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

The command assured residents and political stakeholders that adequate security measures have been put in place to guarantee peaceful, free, and credible elections, warning that anyone found engaging in violence or electoral misconduct would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The exchange comes as political campaigns intensify ahead of the Osun governorship election, with security agencies under increased scrutiny over their role in maintaining peace during the electoral process.
