The Ekiti State Government has announced the commencement of compulsory biometric registration for all commercial motorcycle (Okada) riders and tricycle operators as part of efforts to strengthen security across the state.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Kehinde Ajobiewe, disclosed that the registration exercise will begin on July 6 and end on July 18. He said the initiative is aimed at creating a comprehensive database of transport operators, improving public safety, and curbing criminal activities linked to unregistered riders.
According to him, all operators will undergo biometric data capture and proper screening before being issued valid riding permits. Those who fail to register before the deadline risk facing sanctions under the state’s transportation regulations.
The registration will take place at offices of the Ekiti State Board of Internal Revenue in all 16 local government areas. The government also urged transport union leaders to mobilise their members to participate in the exercise.
Ajobiewe reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration to improving security, ensuring an orderly transport system, and enhancing the welfare of commercial transport operators in the state.
