Women supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara Central Senatorial District have staged a rally in Ilorin to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and other party candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The rally, held on Saturday, also sought support for AbdulRazaq’s bid to represent Kwara Central Senatorial District in the Senate.
According to a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Sunday, the procession was led by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Women Mobilisation, Monsurat Abimbola Lawal.
The participants, dressed in matching outfits, marched through major parts of Ilorin, including Surulere, Agaka, Oja Oba Market, Gambari, Ita-adu, Kankatu, Omoda and Alore, while displaying banners and singing songs in support of the APC.
Speaking during the rally, Lawal said the mobilisation was organised to demonstrate the women’s support for AbdulRazaq and encourage residents to vote for APC candidates.
She also called for support for Tinubu and other party candidates across the state, expressing confidence that voters would consider the administration’s performance when making their electoral choices.
Lawal urged party members to maintain peace and unity, appealing to aggrieved members to reconcile with the party ahead of the elections.
Similarly, the Deputy Speaker of the Ilorin West Legislative Council, Sherifat Adeola Balogun, called on dissatisfied APC members to return to the party.
Balogun said the turnout reflected the commitment of the women to the party, adding that the rally was organised voluntarily to showcase support for the governor and other candidates.
She urged members who had grievances against the party to put aside their differences and support the administration.
Another APC member, Ambassador Muminat Jumai Zakariya, commended AbdulRazaq for what she described as his commitment to gender inclusion and the participation of women and young people in governance.
Zakariya said women had been appointed to various positions in the state government, including commissioner, senior special assistant and special assistant roles.
She expressed confidence in the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections and said the rally was intended to demonstrate women’s support for its candidates.
Also speaking, Hajia Falilat Saka, popularly known as Iya Eleja, said the rally was organised to show solidarity with AbdulRazaq, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Salihu Yakubu Danladi, and other APC candidates.
She expressed confidence that the party would receive support from women in Kwara Central and other parts of the state during the elections.
