Zamfara APC Faces Fresh Crisis as Eight Lawmakers Quit Party

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State is facing renewed internal tension after eight members of the state House of Assembly announced their resignation from the party over insecurity, alleged injustice and unpaid salaries and allowances.

The lawmakers, who announced their decision on Sunday, include Aliyu Kagara, representing Talata Mafara South; Ibrahim Bakura, representing Bakura; Faruk Dosara, representing Maradun I; and Bashir Masama, representing Bukkuyum North.

Others are Muktaru Kaura, representing Kaura North; Nasiru Abdullahi, representing Maru North; Bashar Bello, representing Bungudu West; and Bashar Aliyu, representing Gummi I.

The development adds to existing disagreements involving some of the lawmakers and the party, with the legislators accusing the APC and the state authorities of failing to adequately respond to security concerns affecting their constituents.

Kagara said the lawmakers had gone for 32 months without receiving salaries, allowances and other entitlements.

He also criticised the handling of insecurity in rural communities, saying the concerns of residents who elected the lawmakers had not received adequate attention.

However, the Zamfara APC said it had not formally received the lawmakers’ resignation letters.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Birnin-Magaji, said the APC had only seen the letters on social media and was awaiting official communication through the lawmakers’ respective wards and local government structures.

He said the party was not aware of any grievances from the lawmakers before the resignation letters emerged.

The lawmakers’ resignation follows reports of an earlier dispute within the party, including their reported suspension over allegations that they attempted to impeach the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly.

Their latest move therefore brings renewed attention to the relationship between the lawmakers, the APC leadership and the state government as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections intensify.

The lawmakers have not publicly disclosed their next political destination.

For now, the APC is awaiting formal communication before announcing its position on the development.
