Sokoto APC Challenges ADC Candidate to Account for Tambuwal’s Eight-Year Record

The Sokoto State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has challenged the African Democratic Congress governorship candidate, Manir Dan’iya, to account for the performance of the eight-year administration of former Governor Aminu Tambuwal, under which he served as deputy governor.

The APC made the demand after Dan’iya called on the Sokoto State Government to disclose the total revenue it had received from the Federation Account since 2023.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto,

Abubakar Bawa, described Dan’iya’s demand as unnecessary, saying information on federal allocations to states was already available through official channels.

Bawa said Dan’iya should instead explain the achievements of the previous administration and tell Sokoto residents what he intended to offer the people if given the opportunity to govern the state.

The APC accused the Tambuwal administration of leaving behind financial liabilities, unpaid obligations and inadequate infrastructure despite receiving monthly allocations and other intervention funds.

The party alleged that pensioners were left waiting for their gratuities for six years, while civil servants experienced salary delays and ministries, departments and agencies were not receiving regular imprest.

It also claimed that the current administration inherited unpaid electricity bills affecting government facilities, as well as more than N5bn in outstanding student registration and tuition fees for students studying within Nigeria and abroad.

According to the APC, the Governor Ahmed Aliyu-led administration had since settled the inherited liabilities, including outstanding payments owed to students.

The ruling party also listed the implementation of the new minimum wage and the recruitment of 3,100 personnel into various ministries, departments and agencies, 2,400 health workers and 1,550 personnel for the Sokoto Marshall security initiative among its achievements.

It further cited road construction, water supply, education, healthcare, rural development and security projects as evidence of the administration’s performance.

The APC said some projects abandoned by the previous administration, including the Rijiya Flyover and Tashar Illela Road, had either been completed or were at various stages of completion under Aliyu.

Bawa urged Dan’iya to explain what the Tambuwal administration, in which he served as deputy governor, achieved to warrant another opportunity to govern the state.
