Vice President Kashim Shettima has received former Katsina State Secretary to the Government and ex-leader of the African Democratic Congress in the state, Mustapha Inuwa, back into the All Progressives Congress.
Inuwa’s return to the ruling party comes as political activities and realignments intensify across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former Katsina APC chairman had previously left the ruling party for the ADC, where he became one of the prominent political figures in the state. He later resigned from the ADC and directed his supporters to return to the APC.
Receiving Inuwa in Katsina on Sunday, Shettima expressed confidence in the APC’s chances in the state, saying the party remained firmly rooted in Katsina.
The Vice President also commended Governor Dikko Radda for his efforts to reconcile political stakeholders and bring prominent figures back into the APC.
Shettima said he was optimistic that the ruling party would secure victory across Katsina in the 2027 elections.
Inuwa’s return is considered significant for the APC because of his previous political influence and grassroots connections in the state. His defection also represents another major political realignment as parties prepare for the 2027 polls.
The development comes amid a series of defections involving politicians who previously left the APC for opposition platforms. The ruling party has been working to strengthen its structures and consolidate support ahead of the next general elections.
For the APC, Inuwa’s return could provide additional political strength in Katsina, while the development presents another challenge for opposition parties seeking to expand their influence in the North-West.
