The political atmosphere in Osun State has intensified ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with Governor Ademola Adeleke and the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, accusing each other’s camps of attempting to influence the poll through the alleged purchase of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Governor Adeleke alleged that operatives linked to the APC were offering money to voters in exchange for their PVCs and PIN numbers, claiming the move was aimed at disenfranchising voters in opposition strongholds. He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate the allegations and safeguard the integrity of the election.
In response, Oyebamiji rejected the accusation and turned the allegation on the ruling camp, claiming that some politicians were indirectly buying PVCs from unsuspecting residents. Speaking at a campaign rally in Osogbo, he urged voters not to sell their voter cards, insisting that their votes would determine the future of the state.
