The Nigeria Democratic Congress has condemned an alleged attack on its members during a grassroots meeting in Obuoffia Ward, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The party described the incident as unprovoked, alleging that its members were attacked by suspected state-sponsored thugs during the meeting.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC said political parties had a constitutional right to hold peaceful meetings and participate in the democratic process.
The party alleged that similar attacks had occurred against its members in parts of the South-East, accusing security agencies of failing to adequately respond to violence against opposition groups.
The NDC also recalled an alleged attack on its members in Imo State during a town hall meeting and consultation involving its senatorial candidate, Uche Onyeagocha.
The party called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the Enugu incident, identify those responsible and prosecute them and their alleged sponsors.
Despite the incident, the NDC said it would not be intimidated or stop its mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party urged its members and supporters to remain committed to peaceful political participation, insisting that intimidation would not stop its activities.
