LP distances itself from Arabambi over Obi credential suits

The Labour Party has distanced itself from its former National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, following his legal action seeking access to Peter Obi’s academic and National Youth Service Corps records.

The party said Arabambi was no longer a member of the Labour Party, having been suspended alongside 24 other members over alleged anti-party activities.

In a statement on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, said the suspension was ratified at the party’s National Convention on April 28, 2026, after which the affected members ceased to be members of the party.

The clarification followed reports identifying Arabambi as an LP chieftain in connection with suits he filed against the West African Examinations Council, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the NYSC over Obi’s credentials.

The party said it would not comment on the substance of the case but warned that Arabambi had no authority to represent the Labour Party.

It added that its lawyers were reviewing the matter and could take legal action, including petitioning law enforcement authorities if necessary.

Arabambi filed separate suits at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking access to records relating to certificates allegedly issued to Obi.

He has maintained that the suits are not intended to determine whether Obi’s certificates are genuine or forged, but to compel the institutions to release existing records concerning the credentials.
