The Delta State Police Command has recovered 21 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp during an intelligence-led operation at a suspected criminal hideout in Owa-Abbi, Ukwani Local Government Area of the state.
The development was disclosed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement made available to journalists in Warri on Sunday. Punch Newspaper reported that the operation was carried out by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit on August 8, 2026.
During the raid, the police arrested a 56-year-old man identified as Lucky Oyiboka, while the suspected illicit drugs were recovered from the premises.
According to the police, preliminary investigation indicated that Oyiboka was allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs.
The command said investigations were ongoing to determine the extent of the suspected drug network and identify other individuals who may be connected to the operation.
The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, said the command would continue to rely on intelligence-led operations to dismantle criminal networks and curb the spread of illicit drugs across the state.
He also appealed to residents to provide credible information to the police, assuring that the identities of informants would be kept confidential.
