The Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, has called for the nationwide adoption of electronic voting, describing it as a crucial step toward improving the credibility and transparency of elections in Nigeria.
Speaking at the unveiling of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM) Five-Year Strategic Plan (2026–2030) in Kaduna, the traditional ruler urged electoral authorities to phase out manual voting and embrace modern technology for future elections.
Bamalli argued that electronic voting machines would significantly reduce electoral malpractice, speed up result collation, and strengthen public confidence in the democratic process. He noted that while implementing the system would require substantial investment, the long-term benefits to Nigeria’s electoral system far outweigh the financial cost.
The monarch also drew from his experience as a former commissioner of KAD-SIECOM, recalling Kaduna State’s earlier deployment of electronic voting during local government elections. According to him, the exercise demonstrated that technology can make elections more efficient, transparent, and less susceptible to manipulation.
He encouraged KAD-SIECOM and other electoral stakeholders to continue championing technological innovations capable of enhancing election integrity across the country, stressing that Nigeria must align with global best practices in electoral administration.
