The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Kwara State, Abdulmumeen Olayinka Ajia, has pledged to prioritise education and healthcare if elected governor in the 2027 election.
Ajia made the promise while flagging off his campaign in Ilorin, where he told supporters that his ambition was aimed at improving the welfare of residents rather than personal enrichment.
The NDC candidate, a United States-based university lecturer, said his administration would work towards building functional education and healthcare systems capable of improving the quality of life of residents.
He said he was particularly interested in creating opportunities for children from ordinary families to succeed through access to quality education.
Ajia also promised to run an administration that would be accountable to the people, urging voters to hold him responsible if he failed to deliver on his campaign promises.
The candidate said he would not tolerate corruption, stressing that public office should be used to serve the people rather than for personal gain.
He further said his campaign would focus on presenting his plans to the electorate instead of attacking political opponents.
Ajia described the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress as being similar in their political approach, while urging voters to consider alternative leadership ahead of the 2027 poll.
During the campaign activities, the NDC candidate toured parts of Ilorin, interacted with residents and business owners and visited traditional rulers to seek their support and blessings.
He also stopped at an accident scene along Taiwo Road, where he sympathised with victims and promised to provide immediate assistance.
