Former Vice-President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has promised to make life more affordable for Nigerians and improve national security if elected president in the 2027 general election.
Atiku made the pledge in a statement posted on his official X account on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, while urging registered voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the forthcoming election.
The former vice-president expressed concern over the rising cost of living, saying many Nigerians were struggling to afford food, transportation, rent, healthcare and other basic necessities.
He noted that parents were finding it increasingly difficult to provide for their children, while pensioners faced difficult choices between purchasing food and paying for medication.
Atiku also highlighted the financial pressures confronting young workers, observing that rising transportation costs, rent and other essential expenses were consuming much of their earnings.
Beyond the economic challenges, the ADC presidential candidate expressed concern over persistent insecurity, particularly kidnapping and attacks that have left many families worried about the safety of their loved ones.
He maintained that Nigerians should not be forced to endure hunger and insecurity at the same time, warning that the country must not allow the prevailing challenges to become the future inherited by younger generations.
Atiku blamed President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the rising cost of living and pledged to pursue policies aimed at reducing economic hardship and restoring security if given the mandate to govern.
“Bola made life expensive. I will work to make life affordable again and restore the security every Nigerian deserves,” he stated.
The former vice-president also urged eligible voters to take an active role in the democratic process by collecting and safeguarding their PVCs.
He described the voter card as an important instrument through which citizens could express their preferences and demand change through peaceful participation in elections.
Atiku called on Nigerians across different generations to unite around the goal of building a country where families could live in safety, dignity and hope.
