A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress and former Edo State governorship aspirant, Kenneth Imasuagbon, has urged Nigerians to prioritise competence when choosing the country’s next president in the 2027 election.
Imasuagbon said voters should focus on the ability of candidates to address Nigeria’s economic and security challenges rather than considerations such as zoning, rotation or place of origin.
Speaking to journalists in Benin on Saturday, the ADC chieftain argued that rotational presidency was not provided for in the Nigerian Constitution.
He said the country needed a president capable of tackling insecurity, creating jobs, improving infrastructure and promoting national unity.
Imasuagbon specifically appealed to voters in the South to support former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whom he described as a politician with the determination and capacity to address Nigeria’s challenges.
He also criticised what he described as regional and ethnic considerations in governance, calling for fairness and inclusiveness in political appointments and the distribution of economic opportunities.
The former governorship aspirant further expressed concern over Nigeria’s infrastructure and electricity supply, saying the next administration must prioritise roads, power and other critical infrastructure.
