No fewer than 174 candidates from 12 political parties have joined the race for the 26 seats in the Ekiti State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general election.
The list of candidates was contained in a document signed by the Legal Officer I of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Ekiti State, Sina Ogundana, and made available to journalists.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, African Democratic Congress, ADC, New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, National Democratic Congress, NDC, and Social Democratic Party, SDP, are among the parties that fielded candidates in all 26 constituencies.
Other parties participating in the contest include the Action Peoples Movement, APM, which presented 19 candidates, while the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, fielded candidates for eight seats.
The Labour Party, LP, is contesting five Assembly seats, while the Action Alliance, AA, presented four candidates.
The Action Democratic Party, ADP, and Young Progressives Party, YPP, fielded three candidates each, while Accord presented two candidates.
The development sets the stage for a keen contest across Ekiti State as political parties position themselves to secure representation in the next State House of Assembly.
With the APC, ADC, NNPP, NDC and SDP contesting all 26 constituencies, the battle for legislative control is expected to attract increased political activities across the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
