Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) minister, has cautioned the recently established opposition alliance to refrain from utilizing Nigerians for their private interests.
This was said by Wike on Thursday during his monthly media roundtable at his official house in Abuja.
He claimed that Nigerians did not benefit from the recent alliance formed by certain political figures who chose the African Democratic Party (ADC) as their platform.
“Because you have issues with someone, you say Nigerians are angry and then you go ahead and form a coalition. Please let’s take the issues of Nigeria seriously.
“I challenge all of them to show their scorecards. When they were at the helm of affairs, what did they do to better the country?” he inquired.
The minister said that he is unable to directly address certain concerns in the FCT, especially the teachers’ strike.
He clarified that the monies owed the teachers aren’t to be paid by the FCT administration but rather by the area councils.
Wike claimed to have taken a number of measures, including taking away the 10% of internally generated revenue that was intended for the local municipalities. However, he stated that since the projected amount outstanding was approximately 18 billion naira, there was not much he could do.
