Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has unveiled the campaign council for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the state, with the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress yet to publicly react to the development.
The unveiling followed Adeleke’s emergence as the coordinator of the campaign in Osun, despite his membership of the Accord Party.
The governor has openly declared support for Tinubu’s re-election, saying his decision is based on his assessment of the President’s performance and his interest in supporting the administration.
The campaign council includes political figures and other stakeholders expected to mobilise support for Tinubu across the state.
However, the silence of the Osun APC has drawn attention, particularly because the party had earlier expressed reservations about the short notice given for the inauguration of the campaign structure.
The development has created an unusual political situation in Osun, where a governor who is not an APC member is leading a campaign for an APC presidential candidate while the party’s state structure remains an important part of the political machinery.
Adeleke’s decision to lead the campaign has also opened a new dimension to political alignments in the state following the recent governorship election.
The governor has continued to maintain that his support for Tinubu does not amount to abandoning his political identity, but is based on his assessment of the President’s administration.
The Osun APC, which lost the governorship election to Adeleke’s camp, has yet to publicly challenge the governor’s role in the Tinubu campaign council.
