The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has praised the former governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, for his endorsement of President Bola Tinubu. Wike expressed his appreciation in a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka, in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Okowa, who was the Vice Presidential candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday. He made this transition alongside Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta and several other prominent members of the PDP in the state, effectively dismantling the PDP’s presence in the region in favor of the APC.
Wike characterized this shift as a further endorsement of the president’s effective governance and dedication to national development. He urged other Nigerians who remain undecided to lend their support to Tinubu. Wike stated that the public endorsement by Okowa and Oborevwori validates his stance taken in 2023, which was rooted in the desire for a united Nigeria. ‘I commend Okowa and Governor Oborevwori for this commendable decision, which must have been motivated by the good governance and commitment of President Bola Tinubu to the unity and progress of Nigeria.
This is what I have consistently encouraged others to do, rather than remain passive when faced with challenges. They have chosen the right moment to express their support for the President, ensuring that the people of the Niger Delta can reap greater benefits from the government, and I commend them for this action. I am particularly pleased that what I perceived prior to the 2023 presidential election is now being recognized by others, who are joining the ‘Renewed Hope train,’ the minister remarked.
