Former Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Mukhtar Shehu Shagari, has called on Nigerians in the North to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, arguing that continued investment in infrastructure could strengthen economic activities across the region.
Shagari, who also served as Minister of Water Resources and Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority, made the call while reacting to the successful flag-off of the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign in Kaduna State.
According to him, the turnout at the event demonstrated the political importance of the North and the need for sustained cooperation among party leaders and supporters.
He specifically cited the Kaduna-Abuja dual carriageway as an important infrastructure project capable of improving transportation and commercial activities.
“I congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the Kaduna-Abuja road project and the efforts made to improve critical infrastructure across the country,” Shagari said.
He noted that better road networks would facilitate the movement of people and goods while reducing transportation difficulties for businesses, farmers and traders.
Shagari said continued investment in roads, transportation and other infrastructure could stimulate economic activities, create jobs and improve the ease of doing business.
He, however, urged the Federal Government to complement infrastructure development with stronger action on security, economic stability, employment and social protection.
The former deputy governor said political support should be accompanied by accountable and responsive governance, stressing that Nigerians expected government policies to produce visible improvements in their livelihoods.
Shagari further argued that retaining Tinubu in office would provide an opportunity to consolidate ongoing projects and reforms.
He therefore urged northerners to support the President, expressing confidence that continuity would help advance infrastructure development and other initiatives across the country.
