The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has suspended its National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, due to alleged financial misconduct and the misappropriation of party funds.
Gabam was suspended along with the SDP National Auditor, Nnadi Clarkson, and the National Youth Leader, Chukwuma Uchechukwu.
The SDP made the announcement regarding the suspension through a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Araba Aiyenigba, indicating that it was a result of a resolution reached during the SDP National Working Committee (NWC) meeting that took place on Thursday, 23 October 2025, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
The party stated: “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), on June 24, 2025, in the exercise of its exclusive powers, in accordance with the provisions of Article 19.1, 19.301), and 19.5 of the 2022 Social Democratic Party Constitution (as Amended), has placed the following listed Officers of the Party on suspension due to a prima facie case of misconduct, financial misappropriation, malfeasance, fraudulent activities, and gross abuse of office, among other infractions and violations of the Party’s Constitution against them. They are:
- Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam (previously, the National Chairman)
- Mr. Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu (previously, the National Youth Leader)
- Mr. Clarkson Nnadi (previously, the National Auditor).”
“The decision was made following the acceptance of the report from the Disciplinary Committee and a subsequent White Paper that reviewed the findings and recommendations concerning the allegations against the affected officers,” the statement continued.
As stated, additional administrative recommendations from the White Paper will be enacted to prevent future violations of the party’s regulations.
Furthermore, the National Working Committee reviewed another report that outlined how certain nonconforming and disloyal party members, namely Messrs Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, Abubakar Dogara, Nuraddeen Bisalla, Solsuema Osaro, Ambo Ekpeyong, Eluwa Ifeanyi Henry, Humphrey Unwukaeze, and Judith Israel Shuaibu, unlawfully gained entry by force into the National Secretariat of the Party located at 17 Nairobi Street, Wuse II, Abuja during the unholy hours of Monday, 28 July 2025, and were apprehended in the act by law enforcement agencies.
“These audacious intruders were arrested and detained along with stolen items discovered in their possession, which included sensitive official documents and valuables taken from the SDP Secretariat. They are currently facing charges in a court of law following their arraignment by the Nigerian Police,” stated the party.
