The African Democratic Congress (ADC) asserts that President Bola Tinubu is being misled by governors regarding the state of insecurity in the nation, urging him to venture into the streets to gauge the sentiments of Nigerians.
According to the ADC, which is the platform established by the opposition coalition in preparation for the 2027 elections, insecurity continues to plague the country, in stark contrast to the assertions made by President Tinubu’s administration.
“I genuinely believe that President Tinubu should leave the Villa, engage with the public, and refrain from accepting the narrative that insecurity has diminished. He should not rely solely on state governors who merely express what they believe is necessary to maintain favor with those in power, rather than conveying the genuine sentiments of the populace,” stated Abdullahi, the ADC spokesman, in response to comments made by presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala, who claimed that insecurity has lessened under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
Bwala, who also appeared on the current affairs program, contended that security has improved since Tinubu assumed the presidency of Nigeria.
He remarked, “Recently, we have encountered a series of issues in Benue. Has it not decreased? We have faced challenges in Plateau. Has it not diminished?
“Consider the IPOB situation, the unknown gunmen. You are aware of the murder cases in 2022 and 2023. Recall how they were abducting individuals right from their homes in the center of town.”
The presidential aide stated, “Insecurity has been significantly reduced. What we are witnessing in Nigeria are criminal behaviors that do not fundamentally relate to the effectiveness of governance, as such issues are present in every region of the world.” Nevertheless, the ADC spokesman criticized the presidential spokesman for what he described as a misleading portrayal of the nation’s security landscape.
“I feel sympathy for President Tinubu because if this is the type of narrative he is consistently exposed to, it is only natural and evident that he resides in a bubble,” he remarked.
