PDP Made A Mistake Presenting Atiku In 2023 – Abba Moro

A prominent member of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abba Moro, has expressed that the party regrets selecting Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.

Moro, who serves as a senator for Benue South in the National Assembly, made this statement during an appearance on News source

“Given the outcome of the election and the voice of the Nigerian populace, it is clear that fielding Atiku was a mistake,” the Senate Minority Leader remarked on Tuesday.

“To suffer a significant loss in such a catastrophic manner is undoubtedly a source of regret.”

The PDP was defeated in the presidential election by the All Progressives Congress (APC), finishing second in the contest won by Bola Tinubu, the then-candidate of the ruling APC.

Approximately two years following that loss, Atiku left the PDP and has not yet disclosed his new political affiliation.
Although the 2027 general elections are just under two years away, there are speculations that the main opposition is attempting to convince former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, to rejoin the party.

Since Jonathan’s defeat to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, he has maintained a low profile and has not participated in public events associated with the PDP.

Likewise, Obi, who was Atiku’s running mate in the 2019 elections, departed the PDP for the Labour Party, where he subsequently obtained its presidential nomination for the 2023 elections.

Former Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, and former President Goodluck Jonathan met at the latter’s residence in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Friday, December 23, 2022.

Obi was reportedly disillusioned with the PDP, a sentiment that was supported by Moro.

However, Moro indicated that discussions are underway to encourage both individuals to participate in the presidential race.

He stated, “In the lead-up to 2027, I am aware that certain individuals have been reaching out to Peter Obi, saying, ‘Come back home, this is what we are planning, and if you return, you have a chance of being the candidate,'” Moro shared during the program.
