The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has asserted that a directive to reinstate Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is unnecessary, as he has already been performing that function.
Wike made this statement during the inauguration of the newly built Interchange Bridge connecting Wole Soyinka Way to Murtala Mohammed Expressway in the FCT.
“Samuel Anyanwu does not require anyone to instruct him to resume,” he remarked.
He also expressed concern over the display of arrogance by certain party members, stating that “Money does not resolve all issues.”
Additionally, he mentioned, “If you wish to learn, come, and we will educate you.”
The role of the PDP National Secretary has been embroiled in controversy for several months, with both Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye claiming the position.
Nevertheless, the opposition party reinstated Anyanwu as its National Secretary after a meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday.
The party has also postponed its scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting that was set for June 30, opting instead for an expanded caucus meeting.
Umar Damagun, the Acting National Chairman of the party, made the announcement regarding the reinstatement during a news conference held in Abuja.
“Anyanwu is returning as the national secretary,” Damagun stated.
“During the upcoming caucus, we will reach a decision that will lead to a proper NEC. As INEC has indicated, they have not received our notice, thus we will conduct an extended caucus meeting on June 30,” Damagun further explained.
The conference saw the participation of Bala Mohammed, the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, along with former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
