Party Crisis: Enugu APC Stakeholders Protest Resistance To Mbah’s Membership

Several leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State threatened to organize a protest in Abuja over the weekend if certain party leaders persist in their alleged attempts to prevent Governor Peter Mbah from joining the party.

They also urged the national leadership of the party to facilitate Mbah’s admission into the APC, asserting that it would enhance the party’s prospects in the region for the 2027 elections.

The stakeholders, representing the six local council areas of Enugu East Senatorial District, who concluded their meeting, specifically cautioned the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, to concentrate on his national responsibilities instead of allegedly undermining the governor’s anticipated defection.

Veteran politician Anike Nwoga expressed his concern regarding claims that certain individuals were obstructing Mbah’s entry into the APC, warning that the residents of Enugu East would oppose such actions.

IN ADDITION, the Joint National Assembly (NASS) Committee on Works, which includes members from both the Senate and House of Representatives, has praised the significant changes observed in Enugu State under Governor Peter Mbah’s leadership, noting that the governor enjoys a high approval rating both nationally and locally.

This acknowledgment came as Mbah advocated for increased representation of Enugu State in the 2026 budget and urged for expedited progress on the ongoing federal road projects linking the state.

The team leader and Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, Akin Alabi, delivered these commendations during a working visit to the governor at the Government House in Enugu, coinciding with their oversight tour of Federal Government road projects in the state over the weekend.

He remarked: “While inspecting these projects, the contractors consistently mentioned, without any prompting, that the governor has been extremely supportive.

“From a security perspective, they express a strong sense of safety and comfort, indicating that you have granted them the right of passage. It is understood that a governor has the ability to hinder a Federal Government initiative within his jurisdiction if he chooses to do so.

“However, as a governor who prioritizes the welfare of his constituents, you are not obstructing these initiatives; rather, you are facilitating their progress. Wherever this Committee travels, we will consistently offer our commendations.

We will convey your commendations to the floor of the House of Representatives, the Senate floor; wherever we have the chance to do so.” He affirmed the committee’s dedication to ensuring that federal road contractors provide value for the investment.
