The spokesperson of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s campaign council, Olawale Rasheed, has criticised the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, for failing to personally attend the signing of the peace accord ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election.
Rasheed described Oyebamiji’s absence from the event as disappointing, arguing that governorship candidates should personally demonstrate their commitment to a peaceful electoral process rather than sending representatives.
He said Governor Adeleke attended the ceremony in person and signed the peace accord, while Oyebamiji and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, were represented by party officials.
Rasheed maintained that the APC candidate missed an opportunity to reassure voters and other stakeholders of his commitment to violence-free elections.
He also urged political parties and their supporters to respect the peace agreement and avoid actions capable of causing tension before, during and after the governorship poll.
The National Peace Committee, in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), organised the peace accord signing to promote peaceful campaigns and credible elections in Osun State.
