Osun APC protests short notice for Tinubu campaign council

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has protested the short notice given for the inauguration of the committee coordinating President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign in the state.

The protest came hours before the scheduled inauguration of the campaign council, with the party saying its state leadership was not consulted before the names of members were made public.

Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, said the party’s leadership only became aware of the composition of the committee after the list was circulated on social media.

Lawal described the less-than-24-hour notice as inappropriate for an exercise involving the re-election campaign of the President, arguing that the process should have involved proper consultation with the party’s leadership in the state.

According to him, the party supports the re-election of Tinubu and remains committed to mobilising for his victory, but the campaign structure should be organised in a manner that allows all stakeholders to participate effectively.

The development follows the decision to appoint Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke as the state coordinator for Tinubu’s presidential campaign, despite Adeleke being a member of the Accord Party.

Adeleke has publicly backed Tinubu’s re-election bid, while the Osun APC had earlier insisted that efforts to secure the President’s victory should be coordinated through the party structure in the state.

The latest disagreement therefore appears to centre less on Tinubu’s candidacy and more on how the campaign should be coordinated in Osun.

Lawal said the APC was not opposed to working with Adeleke or other political actors supporting Tinubu, but insisted that the party leadership must be properly carried along.

He said the short notice could create unnecessary misunderstanding between the APC structure and the governor-led campaign arrangement.

The Osun APC chairman maintained that the party’s support for Tinubu remained firm, stressing that the objective should be to bring all supporters together rather than create divisions among them.
