Opposition lawmakers in the House of Representatives have criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration over what they described as worsening insecurity and growing economic hardship across the country, arguing that many Nigerians are yet to feel the impact of government policies three years into the administration.
Speaking at a press conference, members of the opposition caucus said they were compelled to address the nation’s challenges, insisting that remaining silent in the face of mounting insecurity and hardship would amount to neglecting their responsibility to Nigerians. The lawmakers maintained that despite repeated assurances from government officials, citizens continue to grapple with rising living costs and persistent security threats.
The caucus expressed concern over the increasing burden on households, pointing to the high cost of food, transportation and other basic necessities. They also highlighted continued cases of kidnappings, bandit attacks and other violent crimes, arguing that stronger measures are needed to restore public confidence in the country’s security architecture.
The criticism comes amid broader national debates over security and economic reforms. While the Federal Government has defended its policies and pledged to intensify efforts against insecurity, opposition figures and lawmakers have continued to call for more decisive action to address the challenges facing citizens.
The lawmakers urged the administration to prioritize the protection of lives and property while implementing policies that would ease the economic difficulties confronting millions of Nigerians, stressing that citizens expect tangible improvements in their daily lives rather than promises.
