The Federal Government has revealed that they are working on an independent super grid for every one of the 19 northern states in Nigeria.
Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu spread the word about this after a meeting with the President.
As indicated by him, he expressed that the President directed that repair works be accelerated to restore power supply to the northern part of Nigeria.
The north has been tossed into a total blackout for days following the vandalism of some transmission lines, emanating concerns among stakeholders in the region and beyond.
The Minister said, “The world is moving. This is the 21st century, and we believe that the best approach to providing uninterrupted, functional, stable, and dependable electricity to the northern part of Nigeria is through a distributed power model whereby each of the northern states will have an implanted utility solar scale source. Every one of the 20 states will be protected and immune from each other.
“We have gained ground in this as we have intrigued contractors and financials that are ready to install 100 megawatts each for every one of the 20 northern states, which scalable to 50 megawatts at first and then upgraded to 100 megawatts.
“We plan on establishing a super grid, which is a backup of an optional grid. In the event that the national grid has a problem, there will be an alternative grid through which power can be transmitted.
“The world has gone beyond having a central grid; grids must be regionalized we must have state grids so that each of the regionalized grids can be insulated from one another so that a problem in a particular line will not affect the others. That is what we are really going after. And until that is finished, we believe that we will continue to oversee what we have and lessen the successive occurrence of grid disturbance.”
