The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested 68 suspected drug traffickers and seized more than 7,500 kilogrammes of illicit drugs during operations carried out in Edo State.
According to Punch Newspaper, the arrests and drug seizures were recorded by the Edo State Command of the NDLEA during intelligence-led operations conducted across the state in August 2026.
The Edo State Commander of the agency, Mitchell Ofoyeju, said the suspects included 34 males and 34 females.
He said a total of 7,531.51 kilogrammes of narcotic drugs were seized and removed from circulation during the operations.
According to the command, the seized substances included cannabis, psychotropic substances, methamphetamine and codeine syrup.
Ofoyeju said the agency also intensified its campaign against the cultivation of illicit drugs, leading to the discovery and destruction of four cannabis farms in different parts of the state.
The farms were located in forest areas across Orhionmwon and Owan West Local Government Areas of Edo State.
The NDLEA commander said the operations demonstrated the agency’s determination to tackle drug trafficking and substance abuse in the state.
He assured residents that the command would continue working with community leaders, the media and other law enforcement agencies to combat the spread of illicit drugs.
The command also said it expanded its sensitisation and rehabilitation programmes, providing counselling and vocational training to individuals affected by substance abuse.
