In addition to former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, and Oyo State lead representative Seyi Makinde, the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, claims that a number of candidates are covertly considering its 2027 presidential ticket.
This was said by Okechukwu Osuoha, the party’s Deputy National Legal Adviser, in an interview.
According to Osuoha, the party is presently involved in extensive internal discussions and negotiations to choose its final flagbearer.
“Those names you mentioned are still speculations. Right now, what is paramount in the party is negotiations and discussions, with people trying to identify who will be the most credible candidate,” Osuoha stated.
He claims that other possible candidates throughout the South are already having private discussions with stakeholders to position themselves, even if the public is focused on the three figures.
Holding the national convention to choose new executives to lead the PDP for the next four years is the party’s top priority, he continued.
“It is during that period that we will narrow it down to those who are going to contest. The party will want to conduct a free and fair primary to maintain transparency and prove that when we talk about democracy, we live by it,” he said.
This follows Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro’s listing of Jonathan, Obi, and Makinde as candidates.
As negotiations continue, the senator from Benue South added that additional eligible candidates from the South may still enter the race.
