On Tuesday, two House of Representatives members joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) after defecting from the opposition.
Peter Akpanke left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC. He is from the Obanliku/Obudu/Bekwara Federal Constituency in Cross River State.
Paul Nnamchi, a member of the Enugu State’s Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency, also switched from the Labour Party to the ruling APC
At Tuesday’s plenary, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas made the announcement of the lawmakers’ decisions.
In the meantime, the House of Representatives has approved a bill to alter the 2024 Appropriations Act to prolong the capital component until December 31, 2025.
The Speaker clarified that the budget’s lack of cash was the cause of the extension.
Additionally, citing financial concerns, President Bola Tinubu wrote to the House of Representatives explaining his decision to withhold his assent to the National Assembly Library Trust Fund Establishment Bill.
According to the president, the bill is against the public interest and conflicts with existing laws.
