A former member of the House of Representatives, Dachung Bagos, has expressed his disapproval of the Federal Government’s choice to appoint Fuji musician Wasiu Marshal, widely known as Kwam 1, as an ambassador for airport security protocols.
Bagos, who appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s breakfast show The Morning Brief on Thursday, cautioned that this decision could establish an undesirable precedent.
“With all the drama, now he is an ambassador, which implies that everyone will begin to act theatrically to become an ambassador.
“Regardless of the justification, the perception among Nigerians is that this is fundamentally incorrect,” he stated.
Bagos also condemned the consideration of an Ibom Air passenger, Comfort Emmanson, as an ambassador despite her aggressive behavior at a Lagos airport, warning that this could promote similar disruptive conduct on flights.
“And considering Kwam 2 (Emmanson) as well, given the events that transpired, according to eyewitness accounts, and all the drama.
“If ultimately she is appointed as an ambassador, the negative perception is evident, and in the end, this individual is now an ambassador, suggesting that everyone will begin to misbehave on flights in hopes of becoming an ambassador.
“I am anticipating the day when Yahoo boys will be arrested by the EFCC and made ambassadors. I am looking forward to seeing all those incarcerated being appointed as ambassadors.
“I am waiting to see those responsible for the deaths of my people in Plateau being made ambassadors because I have yet to witness any form of justice. This is the issue we face at the center. What does the law stipulate when one violates this act? Not due to ethnic bias, but what does the law state regarding specific matters?” the former representative remarked.
Bagos further emphasized the necessity for enhanced passenger education and a reassessment of airport security protocols.
“This is a global issue that not many individuals comprehend. The distinction between setting your phone to flight mode or turning it off when the aircraft takes off is significant. Some passengers are unaware of the reasons behind the need to switch off their phones.
Some travelers are unaware of the reasons behind the requirement to turn off their phones and activate flight mode. There is a need for awareness to be raised by the Federal Government and the aviation sector.
“The government ought to have thoroughly examined the public perception and comprehended the actual events that transpired. The Federal Government should have investigated the security and screening processes due to the liquid contents found in Kwam 1’s bottle,” he stated.
On Wednesday, the Federal Government announced the appointment of Kwam 1 as an ambassador for airport security protocols following his contentious behavior at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on August 5, 2025.
This decision faced backlash from Nigerians, especially considering the incident involving Comfort Emmanson, where the passenger was accused of assaulting a flight attendant and confronting security personnel on an Ibom Air flight bound for Lagos.
Comfort (center) was released from the correctional facility on Wednesday.
Emmason was charged and held at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos after the incident. In response to public outcry, the airline retracted the charges against her and lifted the lifetime no-fly ban that had been previously imposed.
