Kebbi Completes 25 Major Infrastructure Projects, Awards 19 New Contracts

The Kebbi State Government has completed 25 major infrastructure projects, with seven others nearing completion and 19 new contracts awarded across the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed-BK, disclosed this during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi as the administration of Governor Nasir Idris approaches its third anniversary.

Ahmed-BK said the completed and ongoing projects cover road construction and rehabilitation, bridges, drainage systems, office complexes and transport infrastructure.

He said the projects were designed to address infrastructure deficits inherited by the administration, improve connectivity and stimulate economic activities across the state.

According to him, the government’s investment in roads has improved access to rural communities and eased the movement of people and goods.

Among the newly awarded projects is the rehabilitation of the 32.7-kilometre Birnin Lafiya–Gulma–Natsini Road in Argungu Local Government Area, which has a 12-month completion period.

The commissioner said improved road networks were particularly important to Kebbi because of the state’s agricultural base and growing activities in the solid minerals sector.

He explained that better roads would help farmers transport their produce to markets, strengthen trade and commerce and create an environment capable of attracting private investment.

Ahmed-BK also highlighted the newly constructed Central Motor Park in Birnin Kebbi, describing it as a major improvement to the state’s transportation system.

He said the new motor park, together with the establishment of the Kebbi State Transportation Authority and acquisition of mass transit buses, had improved transportation services while creating employment and additional revenue opportunities for the state.

The commissioner further noted that infrastructure development would contribute to improved security, emergency response and access to essential services.

He called for continued support for the administration, arguing that another term for Governor Idris would allow the government to consolidate existing projects and extend infrastructure development to more communities.

Ahmed-BK expressed optimism that sustained investment in infrastructure would boost productivity, accelerate economic growth and improve living standards across Kebbi State.
