The Kano State Hisbah Board has prohibited the downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across the state’s 44 local government areas.
The directive, announced by the board’s Deputy Commander General, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, is part of efforts to promote public morality and uphold Islamic values in the state.
According to the board, the decision followed complaints that some operators were distributing pornographic films and other video content considered offensive to Islamic teachings and the cultural values of Kano.
Hisbah said enforcement officers have already been deployed to monitor compliance with the directive through routine patrols across the state. The board warned that anyone found violating the order would face legal action under Kano State laws.
Aminuddeen also urged those affected by the ban to seek alternative lawful means of earning a living, adding that the measure is intended to shield young people from harmful content and curb what the board described as rising moral decadence among youths.
