Kachikwu To Coalition Members: You’ve Joined The Wrong ADC

The presidential candidate representing the African Democratic Party (ADC) in the 2023 election, Dumebi Kachikwu, has responded to the endorsement of the party by the opposition coalition headed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and others.

The coalition members convened in Abuja on Wednesday, where they declared the ADC as the platform to contest against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Additionally, the group appointed former Senate President David Mark as the interim national chairman of the ADC, while former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola was designated as the party’s interim national secretary.

In response to this development, Kachikwu stated in a press release that he is observing the coalition’s announced takeover of the ADC leadership with a sense of amusement.
He asserted that the coalition is engaging with the previous leadership of the party, which was under Ralph Nwosu. He noted that the term of the Nwosu-led executive concluded on August 21, 2022.
Kachikwu criticized the coalition group, indicating that they symbolize a negative chapter in Nigeria’s history. Nevertheless, he mentioned that if they wish to join the party, they should do so through the proper channels.

The statement articulates: “It is with the utmost amusement that I observed the announcement made by the Atiku Abubakar-led group regarding their takeover of the national leadership of the African Democratic Congress. As anticipated, I have received numerous calls and messages requesting my response to this unfolding situation.

“The reality of the situation is as follows: The Atiku-led group appears to be in some form of collaboration with the former leadership of the party, which was led by Ralph Nwosu. The term of the Nwosu-led executive expired on August 21, 2022, and his ongoing representation as the chairman of the party has been the subject of various legal disputes in courts across the nation.
