According to the Delta Government, performers are no longer allowed to travel on its bodies of water to perform their creative roles without donning life jackets and taking other precautionary precautions.
This is included in a sympathy message that State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Nnamdi Ijeh, sent on Monday to the relatives of those deceased in last week’s tragic boat accident on the River Niger. The message was made accessible to reporters in Asaba.
In a letter dated April 11, 2024, the commissioner expressed the state government’s and the state’s creative family’s condolences for the regrettable event that occurred on April 10, 2024.
”On behalf of the State Government, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the entire creative family in the state, I sympathise with the families of those who died while expressing their creative talent on their way from the location of shooting a movie on April 10, 2024, as well as the entire Nollywood family.
”With a heavy heart, I want you to know that we share in your pain. At the time the news got to us, we arrived at the scene and discovered that the few ones who were saved from the boat mishap were on life jackets.
‘’It is therefore very expedient that, at this time of grief, to say that henceforth, such journeys should not be embarked upon without life jackets, expert divers, and other safety precautions,” he said.
He also said, “The Delta Government regards the safety of all its citizens as a top priority, so it cautions against taking water trips without the necessary safety equipment, particularly for those in the entertainment sector.”
Also, the commissioner prayed for the souls of the deceased in a letter copied to Dr. Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).
