The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes has urged politicians in Oyo State to present clear plans on education, healthcare, security, infrastructure, employment and the economy as they prepare for the 2027 general elections.
The council made the call while urging political parties and their candidates to move away from personal attacks and focus their campaigns on policies and programmes capable of addressing the challenges confronting residents.
CCII President-General, Chief Ajeniyi Ajewole, said voters should be given the opportunity to understand what candidates intend to do differently if elected.
In a statement issued by the council’s Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide, Ajewole said political campaigns should provide an avenue for candidates to explain their vision rather than attack their opponents.
He urged candidates seeking elective positions in 2027 to clearly explain how their proposed policies would improve the lives of residents of Oyo State and Nigerians generally.
According to him, voters should be able to compare the programmes, records and vision of candidates instead of being subjected to insults and personal attacks.
The council also appealed to political parties, campaign organisations and supporters to caution their media aides, social media handlers and bloggers against inflammatory statements targeting political opponents.
Ajewole warned that inflammatory rhetoric could create unnecessary tension and distract voters from issues affecting their daily lives.
He stressed that political differences should not destroy relationships among residents, noting that politicians and citizens would continue to live together after the elections.
The CCII leader therefore called for maturity, restraint and respect throughout the electioneering period, urging politicians to place the interests of Oyo State and Nigeria above personal and partisan considerations.
The call comes as political activities increase ahead of the 2027 elections, with politicians and political parties beginning to intensify their engagements with voters across Oyo State.
