Supporters of the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, popularly known as “Obidients,” have brought back an old video featuring former President Goodluck Jonathan discussing former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff and alleged links to the Boko Haram insurgency.
The video resurfaced online following recent political exchanges involving Sheriff and supporters of Peter Obi, with some Obidients using the footage to question Sheriff’s past comments and political positions.
In the old clip, Jonathan was reported to have spoken about allegations surrounding Sheriff and Boko Haram, describing him as someone accused of having connections with the insurgent group. The claims have been subjects of political debate over the years, with Sheriff repeatedly denying any involvement with Boko Haram.
The renewed circulation of the video has triggered fresh reactions on social media, as supporters of different political camps debate Sheriff’s record and his role in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Sheriff, a former national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party and two-term governor of Borno State, has remained a prominent figure in Nigerian politics despite previous controversies surrounding his name.
