Jigawa PDP Urges Crackdown on Ghost Workers to Enable Development Projects

To free up funding for development initiatives, Jigawa State’s current government, led by State lead representative Umar Namadi, has been urged by the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to review payroll processes and get rid of ghost workers.

On his Facebook page, Hon. Babandi Ibrahim Gumel, the state chairman of the PDP, made the call.

The chairman made these remarks in response to the recently issued BudgIT Report, which ranked Jigawa State as having poor budget performance.

According to him, “we the Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) express our deep concern over the recently released BudgIT report, which ranked our dear state lowest in budget performance among Nigeria’s 36 states.”

He clarified that important findings from BudgIt research revealed that Jigawa had one of the lowest rates of capital budget execution, with vital sectors including infrastructure, education, and health receiving far less than what was allotted.

According to Babandi, the finding was not only disheartening but also a wake-up call for the state’s progress.

The party recommended that capital projects be given priority by the current All Progressives Congress (APC) government, which is led by State lead representative Umar Namadi.

“We call on the Governor to act swiftly and decisively to restore fiscal discipline, rebuild public trust, and reposition our state for inclusive growth,” he stated.
