Governor Siminalayi Fubara has participated in his inaugural Sunday church service following his reinstatement as the Governor of Rivers State.
The governor, accompanied by his wife, Valerie, and various stakeholders, attended the Saint Paul’s Anglican Church located in his hometown of Opobo, within the Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area. He urged the Church to remain committed to prayer as his administration embarks on a new beginning.

While the church was commemorating its 2025 Harvest of Divine Possibilities, Governor Fubara clarified that his purpose for attending was to quietly express gratitude to God for His unwavering support towards his family, the state, and the nation.

He emphasized that nothing could compare to God’s benevolence except for sincere and humble worship.

He expressed his gratitude for the church’s prayers, which he stated had upheld his family and administration during challenging periods.
He remarked that such prayers had prevented disgrace and facilitated divine intervention.
On this International Day of Peace, Governor Fubara reminded the community of the importance of maintaining peace.
A special prayer was conducted by the Church’s Vicar, Venerable Emmanuel Nwuju, for the First Family.
Fubara, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was elected as the governor of the resource-rich state on May 29, 2023.

He succeeded Nyesom Wike, the former governor and current FCT Minister, who played a significant role in his electoral victory.

Wike, who served as a mentor to Fubara, later experienced a fallout with him over the management of state resources and structures, leading to a division within the House of Assembly, which ignited impeachment attempts, protests, and violence, including the destruction of the Assembly complex.

Nevertheless, President Bola Tinubu intervened by declaring a state of emergency on March 18 for a duration of six months.
However, on Wednesday, Tinubu rescinded the emergency rule and reinstated democratic governance in the state.

The President announced, “The Governor, His Excellency Siminalayi Fubara, the deputy governor, Her Excellency Ngozi Odu, along with the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the speaker, Martins Amaewhule, will recommence their duties in their offices starting September 18, 202.

“Consequently, it brings me immense joy to proclaim that the state of emergency in Rivers State, Nigeria, will conclude at midnight today (Wednesday).”

Numerous supporters of Fubara gathered at the entrance of the Government House on Azikiwe Street, Port Harcourt, as early as 6 am on Thursday, arriving from various regions of the state to commemorate the governor’s return.
