Adamu Maina Waziri, a former Minister of Police Affairs and a two-time governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State, has officially resigned from the party and returned his membership card.
Waziri made his resignation known at Dogotebo Ward in Potiskum Local Government Area, expressing that it was a challenging decision to part ways with the party after many years of dedication and loyalty.
“I have chosen to resign my membership due to the stipulation in the party’s constitution, which mandates that I must come to my ward — Dogotebo in Potiskum, situated in a primary school that predates me — to submit my resignation letter and formalize the action I undertook approximately a week ago,” he stated.
“I want to reassure you that this is an extremely difficult decision. However, the young man representing the chairman is one of my mentees, and I encourage them to join us in the near future.”
In a related development, Zainab Boni-Haruna, the spouse of a former governor of Adamawa State and a native of Yobe, has also departed from the PDP.
She announced her resignation at the Kukar Gadu community in Fika Local Government Area, revealing her intention to join the newly established African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
“I have returned to my home and village to inform them that I am no longer a member of the People’s Democratic Party. I have submitted my resignation letter and returned my membership card to the party,” she remarked.
“I encourage them to join the new coalition initiative, referred to as Sabuwar Tafiya (new journey) in Hausa, to elect leaders who will provide improved governance for our people.”
She urged her supporters and other well-meaning Nigerians to support the coalition in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
Despite being less than a week old, the new ADC coalition has already begun to draw in several politicians in Yobe, particularly those discontented within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
