The former Director-General of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and a two-term member of the House of Representatives, Cyril Maduabum, has officially resigned from the PDP and has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement released by Maduabum, he conveyed his profound disappointment regarding the current condition of the PDP, a party he once served with great pride.
He claimed that the party has been overtaken by self-serving individuals who prioritize their personal ambitions over party discipline, internal democracy, and the national interest.
He stated that the PDP is now merely “a shadow of its former self,” suffering from chaos, internal treachery, and systematic dismantling orchestrated by individuals who disregard the principles established by its founders.
Regarding his transition to the ADC, Maduabum characterized the party as “a beacon of hope for good governance, integrity, accountability, and inclusive politics.”
The statement continues, “After thorough reflection, extensive discussions, and careful assessment of the current political landscape within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I have made the challenging yet necessary decision to resign my membership from the PDP effective immediately.
“As a dedicated democrat, a two-term member of the House of Representatives, and former Director-General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, I have devoted significant parts of my political career to fostering the PDP as a platform for democratic consolidation and national progress.
“Nevertheless, the essence of the party I once served with pride has been seized by self-serving, unscrupulous individuals who are more focused on personal power than on party discipline, internal democracy, or the national interest.
“Today, the PDP stands as a mere shadow of its former self. It has fallen into chaos, internal betrayal, and systematic destruction by various forces who show no respect for the foundational principles of the party.
Regrettably, voices of reason are no longer embraced, and true reformers face vilification or suppression. I can no longer, with a clear conscience, stay in an environment that has lost its moral direction and is dominated by opportunists.
“In this context, I am honored to declare my affiliation with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) — a party that now represents the sole credible democratic alternative for Nigeria. The ADC is rising as a symbol of hope for effective governance, integrity, accountability, and inclusive politics. It provides a chance for principled politics, authentic people-centered leadership, and a foundation for reconstructing our nation from the grassroots level. The ADC Coalition comprises progressive individuals such as Mr. Peter Obi and others.
“I join the ADC not just as a defector but as a reformer dedicated to fostering a new political culture — one founded on merit, ideology, discipline, youth participation, and national unity.
“The moment has arrived for all well-intentioned Nigerians to take a stand against the deterioration in our political system. I urge all patriots, particularly those disenchanted by the dysfunction within traditional parties, to unite around this movement for a new Nigeria through the ADC.
“I remain devoted to the democratic principles of justice, equity, and service to the populace. The fight to save Nigeria and restore its potential persists — and it commences now on a new, more solid foundation.
“God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
