A teacher at Community High School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State has expressed concerns over inadequate security, saying fear remains among pupils and teachers despite the successful rescue of those abducted by gunmen.
The teacher, who spoke anonymously in a television interview, said academic activities have resumed, but many students and staff remain anxious because there is no visible security presence around the school.
The rescued pupils and teachers recently regained their freedom after spending 56 days in captivity following a coordinated operation by Nigerian security agencies. The abduction, which occurred in May, claimed the lives of two teachers, Michael Oyedokun and Esiyan Adegboye, during the attack.
While commending the rescue operation, the teacher urged the government to deploy security personnel to schools in vulnerable communities to reassure parents, teachers and pupils and prevent similar incidents in the future.
