The All Progressives Congress (APC) has successfully secured all 20 chairmanship positions in the local government elections held in Lagos State.

On Sunday, the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) announced that the APC also achieved victory in 375 out of 376 councillorship positions within the state.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) managed to win one councillorship seat in Ward D located in Yaba.

On Saturday, registered voters in the state participated in the elections to select their preferred chairmen and councillors who will oversee the governance of the 20 local government areas (LGAs) and 37 local council development areas (LCDAs).
The state boasts over seven million registered voters.

Data from the agency indicated that 15 out of the 19 registered political parties in the nation were confirmed to be contesting for the chairmanship and councillorship roles.

The 20 councils include Agege, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Alimosho, Amuwo-Odofin, Apapa, Badagry, Epe, Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Mushin, Ojo, Oshodi-Isolo, Shomolu, and Surulere.

The LCDAs consist of Orile Agege, Ifelodun, Agbado-Oke Odo, Ayobo-Ipaja, Egbe-Idimu, Mosan-Okunola, Oriade, Apapa Iganmu, Olorunda, Badagry West, Eredo, Ikosi-Ejirin, Ikoyi-Obalende, Iru/Victoria Island, and Lekki.

Additional LCDAs include Ojokoro, Onigbongbo, Ojodu, Igbogbo-Baiyeku, Ijede, Imota, Ikorodu North, Ikorodu West, Agboyi-Ketu, Ikosi-Isheri, Lagos Island East, Yaba, Odi-Olowo, Iba, Oto-Awori, Ejigbo, Isolo, Bariga, Coker-Aguda, and Itire-Ikate.

With these results, the APC has maintained its political dominance in Lagos, which serves as Nigeria’s economic hub and a significant source of revenue.

Bola Tinubu, the President of Nigeria, hails from Lagos and served as the governor of the state from 1999 to 2007.

On the eve of the elections, LASIEC Chairman Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile stated that no political party faced restrictions in participating in the elections.

While there were no significant reports of violence during the voting process, instances of voter intimidation and delays in the arrival of materials were noted in certain areas.

However, Okikiolu-Ighile remarked that the assertions regarding low voter turnout may have originated from individuals leaving after they had cast their votes.

A 70-year-old woman participated in the Lagos LG election on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
“In certain locations, the turnout was notably impressive. In others, voters took their time to arrive.

“I received a message from someone indicating that it took him no more than five minutes at the polling unit. Therefore, we may not have an accurate count of how many individuals participated. If we claim that turnout was significantly low here, it may not reflect the situation elsewhere, as voters were not necessarily required to remain at the polling unit,” she stated on Saturday.

She pointed out that while numerous polling units in rural areas were difficult to access, both sensitive and non-sensitive materials ultimately reached their intended locations.

The LASIEC chief further mentioned that the commission successfully navigated logistical challenges in various regions of the state.
