The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced Kamilu Sa’idu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the victor of the Kaura-Namoda South State Constituency by-election in Zamfara State.
The Returning Officer, Lawal Sa’adu from the Federal University Gusau, reported that Kamilu Sa’idu received 1,181 votes in the supplementary election, surpassing Muhammad Lawal Kurya of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 194 votes.
Overall, the APC accumulated 8,182 votes, while the PDP obtained 5,544 votes throughout the constituency.
“Kamilu Sa’idu of the APC, having achieved the highest vote count, is hereby declared the winner and has been returned elected,” Sa’adu stated.
This declaration came after a supplementary election was held in two registration areas — Sakajiki, which had two polling units, and Kyambarawa, which had three polling units.
The rerun was necessitated after the by-election was deemed inconclusive last Saturday at the collation center in Kasuwar Daji.
The vote difference between the two leading candidates was 1,662 votes, which is less than the 3,265 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) that were collected in the affected polling units.
With this announcement, Kamilu Sa’idu is set to represent the Kaura-Namoda South Constituency in the Zamfara State House of Assembly.
