On Monday, certain members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State organized a peaceful demonstration at the Lagos State House of Assembly in response to the purported planned imposition of appointees across the 20 Local Government Areas (LGA) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) within the state.
The dissatisfied APC party members are also calling for the dismissal of the party’s state chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi.
The demonstrators, believed to represent all 57 LGAs and LCDAs in the state, assembled in large numbers, chanting slogans and displaying placards with messages such as ‘Ojelabi Must Go’ and ‘We Want Fresh Leadership’.
The protest commenced in the early hours of Monday, garnering considerable attention and resulting in increased security measures around the Assembly complex.
Several police officers have been deployed to ensure order and avert any potential violence.
The state deputy governor, Kadri Hamzat, visited the protest site to help ease tensions.
The deputy governor stated that the ongoing matter is an internal party issue and will be addressed promptly.
