Anambra Poll Is INEC’s Chance to Redeem Itself – Atiku

As Anambra State prepares for its gubernatorial election scheduled for November 8, 2025, the political climate is filled with tension, expectation, and renewed demands for transparency. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which has faced criticism for perceived bias and inefficiency, is once again in the spotlight of national discourse. However, this time, the stakes extend beyond mere ballot boxes, they encompass the restoration of trust in Nigeria’s democratic process.

Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has issued a challenge. In a strongly articulated message on his official X account, Atiku called upon INEC to regard this election as a pivotal moment to demonstrate that it has indeed “turned a new page.” He characterized the forthcoming Anambra governorship election as a chance for the commission, under the guidance of Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), to prove to Nigerians and the global community that integrity can once again steer Nigeria’s electoral framework.

Atiku’s comments included a surprising endorsement of Nwosu Chuma, the candidate representing the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has ignited intense discussions within political circles. In what many consider an unforeseen decision, the PDP veteran has lent his political support to a third-party candidate, urging Anambra voters to “rally round the ADC flag bearer” to usher the state into a “new era of prosperity and economic stability.”

For an individual who has experienced electoral injustice firsthand, Atiku’s message resonates with both moral authority and political significance. “The election to select the next governor of Anambra State presents a distinctive opportunity to conclude the period of ineffective governance,” he stated. His tone was undeniably passionate, even confrontational, cautioning against permitting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to repeat what he termed its “notoriety of seizing and absconding with the mandate of the populace.”
Atiku’s declaration transcends the boundaries of Anambra, it serves as a reflection
