The Anambra State Police Command has deployed officers to schools and strategic locations across the state as students return for the new academic session.
The deployment is part of the Inspector-General of Police’s Safe School Initiative, aimed at strengthening security around educational institutions and ensuring the safety of pupils, students and other members of the school community.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the exercise was coordinated by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Harrison Oruruo.
According to him, officers deployed to the schools have been directed to maintain a visible presence, monitor activities around school environments and respond promptly to security concerns.
The police will also sensitise students on personal safety, assist children with safe road crossing and provide other policing services during peak arrival and closing periods.
Ikenga said the exercise would strengthen cooperation between the police, school authorities, teachers, parents, guardians and host communities in identifying and preventing possible security threats.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Oji Ama, urged parents, teachers and students to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or activities to the police and other relevant security agencies.
Ama said the protection of children and other members of the school community remained a priority for the command.
He also described security as a shared responsibility, urging stakeholders to maintain effective communication with security agencies.
The police commissioner assured residents that the command would sustain police visibility, community engagement and proactive policing around schools across the state throughout the academic session.
