A federal lawmaker and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has urged APC governors to resolve their differences with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, through private discussions rather than public criticism.
Jibrin made the appeal while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, amid growing disagreements between Wike and some APC governors over his continued membership of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The lawmaker said Wike’s support for President Bola Tinubu should be recognised, despite the minister remaining a member of the opposition PDP.
Jibrin argued that Wike had made significant political contributions to Tinubu’s administration and the APC’s political project, including supporting the party during elections.
He cited Wike’s role in the political realignment in Rivers State and his decision to ask candidates backed by him in the Federal Capital Territory to step down for APC candidates.
The Kano lawmaker also pointed to the APC’s performance in the recently concluded FCT Area Council elections, where the party won five of the six councils, as part of what he described as evidence of Wike’s political contribution.
Jibrin said APC members should avoid embarrassing Wike with public statements and instead engage him directly whenever disagreements arise.
He also noted that Wike’s decision to remain in the PDP while supporting Tinubu was not unique, saying politicians from other parties were also involved in efforts supporting the President’s political project.
The lawmaker said his comments were not based on a personal relationship with Wike, but on his concern about maintaining political stability ahead of the 2027 elections.
